Lady Chapel, Ely cathedral
"Why didn't this no-flash photo of a visiting choir rehearsal (in the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral) come out sharper?" (John G)
First, you were wise to avoid using flash. It would have disturbed everyone there, and would only have illuminated the foreground anyway. But this meant you had to use too long an exposure to hand-hold the camera successfully. The fuzziness of this photo is due to camera shake. You should have used either a tripod or some other really firm support (perhaps the top of a chair or, to see over people's heads, a taller piece of furniture) to hold the camera really steady. In any event. you'd have been better off with a closer view of the choir. There's no point in showing those empty chairs and all that floor space in the foreground!

"Here are some of my latest efforts. Still experimenting, slowly learning." (Serge Doublet, Australia)

Willows
Interesting sky and pleasant colours, but is there anything so very special about the willows? I'd be tempted to try to make them a bit more dramatic...
...so I've used a computer program (cheating?) to sharpen them up and enhance the contrast. I've also got in a bit closer. It might have been worth trying a more dramatic camera angle , perhaps looking up at the trees from below, and seeing the sky through the withered branches.
Willows sharpened up
Cat This is a very effective portrait of Mimi, helped by having a simple out-of-focus background of matching gentle colours with nothing to distract our attention. There's also plenty of space for the cat to look into. Well done!
