| An attractive well-lit picture with pleasantly contrasting colors and a nice sheen and highlights caught on the apples. But there's rather a lot of empty space in the top right and a bit more table cloth than seems really needed, so, on the right, I've tried reducing both of these to concentrate all the attention on the fruit and eggs. But you may prefer the more spacious feeling of your version. Both make very pleasing pictures. Reply from Lynn Barton: "From what I've seen your suggestions are right on target. However, On my still life I think I prefer it uncropped." "Hi, My name is Coen Roelofsma and i'm from holland. Last weekend i went fishing and saw a beautiful sunset so I took some pictures from it. Please tell me which one you like the best and give me some comments on it. Thanx Coen." |

| I much prefer the color version on the right, just because of the color! I don't think you really need all that blue sky at the top, though. |

| Your photo on the left is the best of the three as it's the one in which you get in closest to the sunset. But, on the right, I've got in closer still and the result is even more impressive. "Hi, I'm an amateur photographer who likes to focus on the people and animals (my dog Elly) in my life. These are some of what I feel are my best photos, my husband says I'm crop happy but I agree with your motto of getting in closer. Please let me know what you think of these 4 photos. They were all taken with my digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 950, on the automatic mode. I touched up the eyes of my dog in the first one after using the flash that left her eyes green. Other than that all I did was crop the photos as I felt they needed. I LOVE your site!" (Dawn Mendel, Colorado, USA ) |

| These are perfectly pleasing pictures, and I like the amusing one of your dog on the right. But they don't seem absolutely sharp. I'm wondering if your camera focused on the background rather than the dog's eyes. |

| This is a really good family photo. You obviously managed to take it at just the right moment. Well done! | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Your photo on the left looks like an imaginative experiment, but I think the boy is too far away. On the right, I've tried coming in a bit closer, but I still don't think it works too well because the murky water in the background isn't really all that interesting.
But these are a lively set of photos - and, of course. you are quite right about the value of cropping! |
