"I wrote in your guestbook and thoroughly enjoyed your site.....Thanks! I would also appreciate some constructive criticism......I think. Could you inform if you will do that on your site. These are only of the baby because I was just trying out my new digital." (Tracy Tylee)

Your photo (on the left) is quite appealing, but there doesn't seem any point in showing so much sofa, so, on the right, I've moved in closer. I've also slightly lightened the picture, as, in the original, the camera seems to be exposing more for the sofa than the baby's face that comes out rather dark. If you'd come in closer, you might have been able to avoid this - or you could have taken a close-up reading from the baby's face.

On the left: once again, why all the empty space? On the right, I've moved closer in so that we can really see the baby's face.

Another pleasing shot, but the pattern on the sofa looks sharper than the detail on the baby's face. With an automatic camera, focus on your main subject, semi-depress the camera button to hold the focus there, then swing away to compose the picture as you want it.

Here, on the left, is an example of a horizontal format being used when a vertical one (as on the right) would surely be more appropriate, as it removes the surrounding clutter and concentrates on the important part of the picture. But these are potentially a very good set of pictures. Well done!

Reply from Tracy Tylee: "Thank you very much. I sent you unedited versions just to get a professional opinion. The second picture that I sent was framed after being cropped. The reason I liked your site so much was that you were honest and in some cases sacrificed "conformity" for a more interesting picture. I will definitely bookmark your site and keep it bookmarked. Thank you for such a quick response time.....you are good!"

"hi, i just bought a sony cyber-shot and love to photograph wildlife, this photo is of a neighborhood critter we feed. i hope i did good, the picture looks cute to me." (James Minard, eastpointe, michigan)

Your photo (on the left) is cute, but it's also a little under-exposed (the camera may have been misled by the inclusion of the bright sky). On the right, I've moved in closer and lightened up the picture. You've certainly caught an appealing expression, but it might have been even better if there had been just a bit less of the branch in the left foreground. But you did pretty well to get what you did!
