| Did you really mean to distort your subject's legs to quite this extent? It looks as though you may have been using too wide angle a setting. You could have avoided making them so large (compared to her face) by moving further away and using a telephoto. |

| It is the color in your photo (on the left) that first catches the eye, so I find the names are rather distracting. It would perhaps be better if you used much smaller print and possibly just a single color for them. On the right, I've tried removing them entirely (as well as the white frame of the swing), just keeping the word Halloween, although I'm not sure you really need that either! It's a pity too that we can't see their faces just a bit more clearly. But these are certainly original photos! "Photos of New York and Yosemite. Be as critical as you can. Thanx." (Mark Lahmon) |

| It's a pity the bottom of the trees form a line so nearly half way up the picture. The result is that we don't know quite where to look. It would have been more pleasing to have seen either more of the trees, or more of the bushes in the foreground, if these are really interesting enough. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The subject of your photo (on the left) is a bit further away than it need be, so on the right I've tried moving in closer. It would have been better, though, if we could have seen the giant excavator (if that's what it is on the left of the picture) more clearly. |

| Your photo (on the left) is again rather puzzling as we can't quite see what the red object is! On the right, I've tried moving in much closer, but unfortunately still can't read the lettering on the panel. Is it a letter box? A more frontal view would have helped. |

| This is by far the most successful of these photos. Ideally, I'm not sure that exactly half way up the picture is the best spot for the top of the mountain. But the colors are very pleasing as is the total effect, with the white cloud at the top well balancing the boulders at the bottom. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

Reply from Mark Lahmon: "Philip, Thank you for the quick response. I was in a hurry when sending these and unfortunately didn't get to explain them. The forest photo was meant to loose the viewer as I was literally lost myself. I agree with your comment to bring the base line of the trees down. The black and white photo I printed to 5 feet high and cropped it very similar as you did. It's a very deep and powerful image at that size. The red object is an old out-of-date fire and police call box. I had it as a screen saver cropped slightly larger than yours and its crystal clear. The images range from 25-50 Meg scans and loose a little clarity when not carefully downsized. All of these were taken with my Canon EOS Rebel II. I will be going to Brazil for 3 weeks and taking pictures of landscapes (Rio) and architecture (Sao Paulo, Salvador) and would appreciate any initial comments to be more successful with filters, film speed, aperture settings, and so forth. On the other hand, I don't know if I'm testing your generosity. Thanks a bunch, Mark." Quite honestly, I think the very best photos usually survive even when drastically downsized - but good luck in Brazil! "Thank you. I appreciate your time and effort. Mark."
