"These two are of my husband who is into cowboy action shooting. I know I need to crop the second shot quite a bit and the line is from my scanner." (Della Moyer, Pampa, TX)

With your photo (top left), I'd suggest a horizontal format was better suited to the horizontal line of the gun, as shown on the top right. It's a pity there's a diagonal line across your husband's face, and, even though I've darkened it a litttle, the whole picture looks a bit washed out, so we can't really see his face all that clearly. I'm hoping this was just a scanning fault. But the composition certainly looks dramatic.

As you say, you need to crop your shot, as I've indicated on the right. All it needs is to be just a bit sharper (as perhaps the original is), and it's a fine, arresting photo. However, if your husband had been looking just a little bit more towards us, we'd have seen that much more of his face and it might have been an even more effective portrait.

"This was taken of my nephew for his promotional brochure. I was so excited with the content when I found I could put the ferris wheel in the background and also have the bull for those who know enough about the sport to see him." (Della Moyer)

Nephew Nephew closer
I'm afraid I can't see any bull in your photo on the left - and the Ferris wheel must have been a lot more impressive when you actually saw it. Here it is too far away to make any real impact. Your nephew looks as if he'd been caught in rather an awkward position as he leans over towards us. You could conceal this by moving in a lot closer, as on the right, but then, of course, you can't see much of his costume and I'm sure you'd want to show this. It might be worth trying to take this again when he's looking just a bit happier!

"This is of my granddaughter picking a flower." (Della Moyer)

I'm afraid your photo (on the left) isn't too successful, as your granddaughter is almost disappearing out of the picture on the right, her face is largely in shadow (you needed to use fill-in flash) and it isn't really sharp. On the right, I've tried to frame the picture in a more interesting way, but try to set up your next photo of her so that you show her face a bit more clearly.
