"Hello there. I found your website through a search engine and enjoyed looking at it very much. I have been interested in photography for awhile now but only recently have I been taking pictures. It has been about 6 months since I purchased my Canon Rebel 2000 and I feel that I learn something new each time I use it. I am looking into taking classes to get more serious about photography in general. Anyway, I have enclosed some photos for you to look at. I am always interested in what people with more experience think of my pictures. Thank you for taking the time." (Stacey Ash :-) Palmyra, Wisconsin)

Another sunset
Sunset
These are fine dramatic pictures, but the one on the left could have been even more so if you'd taken it when there was just a bit more color in the sky. There is some conflict of interest in the picture on the right between the sun, top left, and the water, bottom right. Ideally, I'd have preferred to have seen the sinking sun further away from the edge of the picture, with the water leading the eye to it, rather than away from it. A lot easier said than done, I know!

Ships
Closer view boats
It's a good idea to have some foreground framing, but in your photo (on the left) the chain really dominates the picture, so I've tried including a bit less of it in my version (on the right). It's a pity the boats aren't quite in focus. I've also moved the biggest boat to a third of the way down the picture, and a third of the way across, which also cuts down on the empty sky.

"Hi! I'm from Bombay, India. I am sending 4 snaps from a recent holiday trip. Maybe the scan quality isn't good. But I want your comments on the composition of the pics. Thanx in anticipation." (Sanjay)
Family closer
Family
Your photo (on the left) doesn't show your subjects any too clearly, and it's a pity they are right in the middle of the picture. On the right, I've moved in closer. Sorry I can't improve the quality of your scan!

Boy closer
Boy
Left: Why all the empty space in your photo? Right: Move in closer, and you've a really good picture of the boy.

Tree
Three people
These two photos are less successful. The emphasis in the one on the left is on the people's backs, surely not where you wanted it. It would have been better if they (and the camera) had been much closer to the boy, so that the emphasis was on him. The picture of the tree (on the right) just isn't interesting enough to impress. It needed some more dramatic lighting.
