Two photos from Atheana:

Cat
Cat closer
Above left: you were a bit too close to avoid the flash overexposing the cat's face, so, on the right, I've slightly darkened the picture, producing a rather more dramatic result.

Another cat closer

In your photo (above left), the window at the top, and the foreground objects on the extreme left, distract attention from your subject, so, on the right, I've moved in closer to avoid the objects on the left, and I've painted over the still intrusive window! I've also slightly darkened the white area around the cat's neck, but you might prefer it as it was!

Reply from Atheana: "Hi there, I've been to the page and seen your comments/ improvements -they're much appreciated."

"
I have just got my first SLR camera and these photos were on my first film. I love photography, but don't know much at all! These photos are of my daughter." (Joanne C, New Zealand)

Girl holding bear Girl with bear
Your two photos (above) are so similar that it's just a question of which expression you prefer! In both of them, you haven't held the camera quite straight (they tilt down to the right!), and the background is a bit of a distraction. So ....

Even closer view of girl

.... I've straightened them out and moved in closer. I've experimented here with two different ways of cropping the picture. Now that I'm in as close as this, I prefer the version on the right. It would have been even better, though, if the left-hand side of the bear's face hadn't been in such bright sunshine. But it's still a very pleasing picture, and very good indeed for a first film.

Your version is on the left, and mine on the right. Once again, I've moved in a bit closer. This cuts out most of the empty sky, and avoids having the subject right in the middle of the picture. It was a happy idea to show her perched up here, as it's always a good idea to photograph children from slightly below. Well done!

Reply from Joanne C:
"I was wondering if you would enlarge them slightly then crop them - looks much better. Thanks for pointing out that the camera wasn't straight - I'll remember that now. I appreciate your comments."
