"I have just started photography as a hobby, and I wanted your opinion on these images. Could you give me a few pointers on improving their composition?" (Andrew Kott)

More violets
Violets
These two photos are attractive, but I prefer the one on the right because the dark background makes the violet really stand out. But, as so often ....

Another closer view
Closer view
.... I'd really prefer to come in closer as here. This way you concentrate attention on the most interesting part of each picture and lose the rather muddled background. But it's really all a question of personal taste.

This is much less interesting. Gulls are perched along the wall but are too far away to see. There's something on the left hand end of the wall but we're also too far away to see what it is. The overall colouring is rather dull and lifeless. Every picture should tell a story - but I'm afraid I don't know what you're trying to say here!
Distant view

Try to compose each picture so that we can immediately see the point of it - why you took it! A close-up of the gulls with the rest of the wall stretching behind them might have been more appealing. Impossible to take, I expect!

"
Hi. I took these pictures on a trip around my Island. What do you think? (design--hotel balconies)." (Rachel, Guam)

Seascape
The colors are attractive, but we really need to see the land more clearly (or some strong foreground interest would have added to the interest) - and it's a pity that the horizon tilts down a bit to the right.
Balconies improved?
Balconies
Your photo (on the left) comes out rather dark and the muddled effect doesn't do justice to the balconies that I presume you designed! On the right, I've come in closer to produce a more dramatic version, and I've also lightened up the balconies (and removed some of the ugly black marks on them) to produce a cleaner result. I've gone for a cream color, but, of course, could just as easily have made them white! I used Photoshop to do this, but you could probably have obtained a broadly similar effect by waiting for the lighting to be just right before you took the photo. Of course, if you intended your picture to show old balconies in urgent need of repair, leave it just as it is!
