"Hi, Philip, I’ve been practicing a lot but yet a lot to learn is ahead. I recently took this shot in front of my girlfriend’s house (among many others) but this one really catch my eye. Does it catch your eyes too? ( Juan Pablo Ramírez Vega)

Yes, there's something really attractive about your picture on the left - but where is the centre of interest meant to be? I assume it's the whole lit area, so have moved in (see my version on the right) to concentrate attention on it. But the result is still a bit confusing, and I'm left wondering which is the part that really interests you the most, so ....

.... here I've selected just the most picturesque part of the picture. For me, this is the most eye-catching of the three versions. I think it makes a very effective photo - even if I'm not quite sure what it's a picture of!

Reply from Juan Pablo Ramírez Vega (Mexico):
"Your site is amazing, your comments and ability to find the ‘spot’ in our frames is incredibly. I’m very thankful. Continue with the great work."

"Have looked at your website (which is great), and would appreciate your comments on the attached photos. I took up photography about 4 weeks ago and this is my first go! Sorry about the size of the files. My favourite is Beach View 10 (the photo immediately below)- Some Kosovan children were playing on the beach. I took this one at 80mm, I have yet to purchase a lens with greater zoom, I would really have liked to get up close to the little girls face. Look forward to hearing from you." (Donna Enticknap)

Children by sea I agree that this photo is the most interesting of the three you sent me, but it would have been better to have got closer in, as shown below.

Closer view
The closer, the better! Either of these versions would be an improvement. Which to choose, depends on how important the setting is to you. A close-up of the girl might have been better still! Remember to leave more space in front of people than behind them. Sorry you didn't have a more powerful zoom - but it's good that you saw the need for a close up. Next time you'll find a way of getting one!

Children by shore
Closer view
I'd say much the same about your photo on the left. It too is improved by getting closer in (as on the right), so as to remove the empty beach in the foreground. Doing this, also conceals the sloping horizon in the background! If you'd positioned yourself lower down, you might have been able to have got the children (as in my version) providing strong foreground interest, but with the water and the boat visible in the background behind them. But remember always to check that the horizon really is horizontal before you take this sort of picture.

Seascape
This is the least successful photo, because there's not really anything very interesting to see, and the horizon slopes a bit too. It lacks the human interest of the other two.

But, for a very first film, I think it all looks very promising!
